Dr. Nipon Theera-Umpon is an associate professor at the department of Electrical Engineering, Chiang Mai University, THAILAND, where he has been a faculty member since 1993. He was on leave to study in the U.S. from 1995 to 2000. After getting his Ph.D. in May 2000, he was a visiting scholar at the department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science, University of Missouri-Columbia until May 2001. He has been an IEEE Senior Member since January 2006. His research interests include the Medical Imaging, White Blood Cell Counting in Bone Marrow Images Using Morphological Granulometries, Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images using the Morphological Shared-weight Neural Networks, and Land Mine Detection.
He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in May 2000 from the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU), Home of the MISSOURI TIGERS and the oldest state university west of the Mississippi River, in a wonderful city of Columbia, Missouri.
In 1996, he earned his master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC), Home of the USC TROJANS, Los Angeles, California He loves to see USC football, a great football tradition.
In 1993, he obtained a bachelor degree with honors in Electrical Engineering from Chiang Mai University, one of Thailand's prestegious universities, in Chiang Mai, the most beautiful city in Thailand.
